Mrs. Phyllida Stewart-Roberts OBE, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex,  Clarissa Dickson Wright, Kathy Gore receiving cheque for £800 from Cllr. Mrs. Chantal Wilson, Chairman of Wealden District Council.

One of the nation’s favourite cooks and fiery countryside campaigner Clarissa Dickson-Wright came to Ashdown House School in April and, seated in a large, comfortable velvet wing-chair, “spilled the beans” about the cooking and encounters of her very full life in Sussex.  Relaxed and obviously at ease in front of a ‘home’ crowd, she gleefully recounted tales of her adventurous and eventful life, regularly throwing in numerous outrageous stories about MPs and celebrities with obvious mischievous delight, to the great enjoyment of the audience. Guests queued at the end of the evening for copies of her recent book “Spilling the Beans”.

The evening raised £5,500 for the Friends of East Sussex Hospices and we are grateful to Robert Taylor, the Headmaster, Martin Stringer, the Bursar, and the Trustees of Ashdown House School for letting us use the school for the event.  Before the talk Eifion Davies, the school chef, produced a delicious meal in the school dining room.

The Performers

Kathryn Harries
the internationally renowned soprano and organiser of the evening's programme has had a very busy year since Pashley 2007 with operatic and concert engagements in the UK, USA, Holland and Germany. Her reputation as one of the world's finest singing actresses continues to grow and she is very much looking forward to returning to Pashley.

Victoria Joyce
made such a sensational appearance at Pashley last summer that we simply had to invite her back. With her film star good looks, engaging personality and stunning soprano voice, Victoria is in enormous demand and has enjoyed great success in the UK and Europe over the last twelve months.

Robert Poulton
is one of the UK's most popular baritones and since his last appearance at Pashley two years ago, has been immensely busy singing some of the greatest roles in opera to wide critical acclaim. With his mellifluous voice, great talents as an actor and a wicked sense of humour, Robert is in constant demand in the UK and on the Continent.

Angela Livingstone
is regarded as one of the world's great coaches by many of opera's most successful artists including the great Bryn Terfel. A superb accompanist, Angela regularly plays for a stellar line up of singers and instrumentalists and she returns to Pashley this year by popular demand.

Melissa Forshaw
is a violinist of exceptional quality and ability. After training at the prestigious Julliard School in New York, Melissa became Deputy Concert Master of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden at the tender age of twenty five. Melissa has a unique beauty of sound which, allied to her brilliance and virtuosity, makes her one of the most exciting young talents in the world today.

Aquarelle Guitar Quartet
These four gifted young men have been creating quite a stir in the world of classical music. After making 'one of the most interesting and professional debuts for many years' according to Classical Guitar Magazine, this dynamic and innovative ensemble is developing a great       reputation for the quality of their programming and playing.
