'WHOSe OSCAR IS IT ANYWAY?'

An Evening of Music and Comedy from the Golden Age of Hollywood

Firle Place

Saturday 5th June 2010
SOLD OUT

Prizes to be Won

Preparations for a sizzling evening of music and comedy are full speed ahead at Firle Place.  A performance of “Whose Oscar Is It Anyway?” from the Golden Age of Hollywood will be performed on 5th June to raise funds for local hospices.  Firle Place, the home of the Gage family for over 500 years, is an exquisite country estate nestled under the Downs and guests are invited to picnic in the gardens before the performance which will take place in the beautiful 18th century indoor riding school.  The sparkling cast has performed extensively in theatre, film, radio and prime time television and the black-tie evening includes a thirty-minute complimentary champagne interval said to be "the best drinks party in the Sussex social calendar" which has generously sponsored by local chartered accountants and tax advisers, Creaseys.

In keeping with the Oscars theme Virgin Atlantic Airlines has generously donated two return tickets to Los Angeles which have been combined with three nights stay at the luxury 5 star Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard and a tour of one of the major studios to form a Hollywood package which will be auctioned at the event by celebrity auctioneer James Braxton.

The evening is expected to raise over £60,000 for the nine hospices that serve the people of East Sussex.  FESH Chairman Kathy Gore says “The enormous support we receive from local people is evidence of their appreciation of the invaluable work our hospices do”.

Tickets cost £60 (priority seating) and £50. ALL TICKETS SOLD OUT  To go on the waiting list please contact Mrs Dianne Steele by telephone on 01435 813630 or by email at disteele@talktalk.net.

SEPTEMBER SUPPERS

During September 2010 we hope that many people will hold “Dine at Mine” events to help raise funds for our local hospices. All you have to do is to invite some friends for supper, feed them local produce and charge them for the privilege.  Evenings could range from a casual supper of bangers and mash in jeans to a five-course candlelit black-tie soirée.  You could even theme your dinner!  Every penny raised on the night will be passed straight to our local hospices who desperately need our support.

We are also appealing to suppliers of local produce to join in the event by offering food at discounted prices, or even for free.  We hope to have hundreds of Sussex diners tucking into the finest home-grown and locally produced food and drink the county has to offer and raising money for a wonderful cause.

September Suppers doesn't have to only be a supper......... it can be...... anything!  Invite your neighbours for coffee or tea (as we all so often promise to do over the garden gate) - and enjoy a secret sweet tooth shared.  Make getting people together whom you have always meant to introduce but never quite got around to actually happen at last - a shared passion for gardening perhaps - or new grandchildren; university angst or maybe a love of opera.  Be inventive - children can join in with an alphabetti bake sale bringing something to school, swim club or Scouts that starts with the same letter as their name (Annie - applejacks, Ben - banana muffins etc. etc. Even Zachary can bring zucchini bread!).

We've listed some recipe ideas below if you're stuck for inspiration.

FODDER FOR A FIVER
Sausages & mash recipe
Blackberry & apple crumble recipe

POSHER NOSH
Smoked salmon pate recipe
Herbed rack of lamb recipe
Sussex Pond Pudding

Rough costs per head are included so you can work out what you might like to charge your guests for their meal.  You could alternatively ask your guests to donate whatever they feel like paying for their meal - the same amount as if they had eaten out perhaps?

While you get together to eat you might want to hold an auction - perhaps ask somebody's company to donate a nice bottle of wine or tickets for a raffle on the night?  How about a Supper Swap, encouraging everyone to bring some special item that they just don't need any more or that's gathering dust at home to swap by lots or silent bids between courses?   A Clothing Sweep perhaps with everyone bringing three good quality nearly new items of clothing to trade (some of those hardly-worn clothes the children have shot out of - or that doomed purchase staring at you accusingly from the wardrobe every time you open the door?) and followed by a take-away supper?  A pizza and movie party? If your neighbours are within reach what about eating each course of your meal at a different house?

Your imagination is the only limitation - and every penny raised helps our hospices no matter how big or small!

Don't forget to ask your guests to join in the September Suppers by hosting an event of their own and of course get your butcher, baker or candlestick maker on board by asking them if they might give you a discount on your supplies. If you would like further information on holding an event please call Patti Whitaker on 01825 890075 or e-mail  fesh@framfield.com.
