In an unprecedented move the chief executives of the 8 adult hospices that serve Sussex have made a joint call for their funding relationship with the Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to more accurately reflect their costs,  warning of long-term threats to these hospice services unless this relationship is strengthened.

In announcing their campaign to coincide with the general and local elections, each hospice chief executive has written to their parliamentary and council candidates/councillors remaining in office to rally support for this joint initiative and to strengthen the working relationship with the local PCTs.

YOU can support this campaign by writing to or e-mailing your MP and local councillor/s.  Click on the button below to find out more:

"Supporting
the hospices serving
the people of East Sussex"

Friends of East Sussex Hospices is a registered charity run by volunteers which raises money in many different ways for the nine hospices that serve the people of East Sussex. Our hospices provide expert specialist care free of charge to patients of all ages with terminal or life-limiting conditions and this medical, practical and pastoral support is offered to people of all faiths and of none.

In the UK £1.4million is spent on hospice care every day, of which only £447,000 comes from Government sources.  97% of hospices do not receive sufficient funding to cover even the cost of NHS services provided and Sussex hospices fare worse than other parts of the country in this respect.  In this financially challenging climate and when demand has never been greater many hospices are struggling to maintain current services.

Beneficiaries are:

Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice
Demelza Hospice Care for Children
Hospice in the Weald
Leo House at Home
St. Catherine’s Hospice
St. Michael’s Hospice
St. Peter & St. James Hospice
St. Wilfrid’s Hospice
The Martlets Hospice
